Pamphile Gaspard Verreault


PamphileGaspard Verreault was a farmer, notary and political figure in Quebec. He represented LIslet in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1867 to 1878 as a Conservative member.

He was born at SaintJeanPortJoli, the son of Antoine Gaspard Verreau and Hlne Fournier. Verreault was educated there and at the Collge de SainteAnnedelaPocatire. He qualified to practise as a notary in 1860 and practised in SaintJeanPortJoli and Monmagny. In 1863, he married Pamla Couillard Dupuis, the daughter of JeanBaptiste Couillard Dupuis. Verreault was mayor of SaintJeanPortJoli from 1880 to 1893 and warden for LIslet County from 1882 to 1893. He also helped found the Socit dhorticulture de LIslet and was a founder and secretarytreasurer of the Institut littraire et scientifique de SaintJeanPortJoli. He died in SaintJeanPortJoli at the age of 73.
